Best of Essex 2016!

Over recent years, the English county of Essex has become one of the most well known counties in the country; due in most part to a certain reality TV series. However, there is so much more to celebrate about this particular county than the media might have us believe, not least its many high quality and internationally renowned food and drink producers. In addition to all things gastronomic, Essex is home to a number of companies from worlds as diverse as classic car racing cars, rose growers, bespoke kitchen cabinetry, tap manufacturing and beekeeping! So Sub-Zero & Wolf UK decided to hold an event to celebrate the very Best of Essex in our Maldon showroom, this summer.

Two of the most internationally renowned food brands which originate from Essex are Maldon Sea Salt and Tiptree Jams, both of whom are based minutes from our Maldon showroom. These two iconic brands are still family businesses, both with a long and fascinating heritage.

The Maldon Salt Company has been making salt for four generations, harvesting salt from the sea since 1882 and still using the same salt pans as their original site. They started exporting to Sweden in 1955, now exporting to all four corners of the globe and received the royal warrant in 2012, as they celebrated their 130th year.

You can read their full history here www.maldonsalt.co.uk Guests at our event enjoyed Margaritas with Maldon Salt, plus Thorogood’s Southminster asparagus thorogoodasparagus.co.uk with Maldon Smoked Sea Salt flakes – a new and tasty innovation for this time honoured company.

When Chef Bruce cooks up his light as feather scones, using Wolf M Series ovens, only the best strawberry jam will do and Tiptree Jams, known also as Wilkin & Son are another locally produced, international food hero. With a history stretching back to 1885, the first jams of the highest quality were produced using fruits grown in Tiptree, just as they are today.

The royal warrant was received from King George V in 1911 and today the company produces a range of products, alongside their beloved jams, such as delicious fruit gin liqueurs, much enjoyed by our guests, sauces, relishes and even fruit scented room candles and diffusers.

Visit one of their wonderful tea rooms at Tipree, Dedham or Heybridge Basin and even their museum at Tiptree, or read their full history here www.tiptree.com

It’s one of the oldest and largest English Vineyards in the country and offers a range of tastings and events at its delightful premises. Our guests enjoyed locally produced white, red and sparkling wines from New Hall Vineyard; perfectly chilled from our Sub-Zero wine storage and you can find out more about the vineyard here www.newhallwines.co.uk

Now, let’s talk turkey…the finest Essex award winning turkey in fact, raised and produced by Paul Kelly of KellyBronze, just down the road from our showroom in rural Danbury. In 1971, Paul’s father, Derek Kelly started the family business on a plot of land, together with a smallholding in Maldon.
